How Diversity Makes More Money
The paradigm of global enterprise has really shifted over the past decades. Diversity is no longer just something that companies have to do from a social responsibility perspective, it has actually been proven to lead to improved innovation, better employee engagement, improved customer satisfaction, as well as increased profits. But the question is “How much more money will the companies make if they embrace diversity? How long will it take to see an impact?”
My name is Nasr El-Lebeady. I am one of the 162 members of Early Careers who joined HPE recently from all over the world.
One of my mentors once told me “learn a new thing every day and you will do wonders”.
Here at HPE, it seems natural to learn a new thing every day. If you are working in such a diverse and inclusive company like HPE, you will automatically be exposed to a wide range of different opinions, ideas, and skills far more regularly, and you will also be actively encouraged to share your own. This, in turn, will allow you to open your mind and become more curious about different ways of thinking, whilst allowing you to refine your interpersonal skills. You will be more likely to learn new skills from your colleagues every day.
Diversity is a main pillar of the HPE culture, and the empowerment of team members is also a main focus. I felt this from day one, that people contribute all their differing perspectives, ideas, and experiences for one common purpose: to advance the way people live and work.
The diversity’s impact on the business
If you are wondering about how this can help the business, let me tell you: I actually looked at a study that management consultant firm, McKenzie, conducted, which proved that gender-diverse companies are actually 15% more likely to outperform. And ethnically diverse companies are 35% more likely to outperform.
This is a clear message that diversity and inclusion is no longer optional. It is a significant factor for outperforming and achieving success.
To be short: diversity is a solid business concept all around, for everyone, in any business, wherever they are and whatever they do. We all should know is that when diversified teams are at the table, the discussion is richer, the decision-making process is better, and the organization is stronger.
