HPE Discover 2023 was groundbreaking. What now?
HPE Discover 2023 Round up – HPE GreenLake evolves
One month on and reflecting on this year’s HPE Discover in Las Vegas, it was the boldest Discover event I’ve attended in some time. So, I wanted to discuss what some of the announcements mean and paint a picture of where we are headed for our customers and partners. We heard announcements around HPE GreenLake developments and platform expansions, and there was a focus on using AI cloud for Large Language Models (LLMs). Overall, we’re accelerating our customers’ journey in a hugely competitive environment, and it was inspiring to hear all that is planned for the next year. Here’s what’s next.
HPE GreenLake still leading the charge
Our President and CEO Antonio Neri’s keynote centred around the major announcement that we are entering the AI public cloud market with HPE GreenLake. You can watch our CEO’s keynote in full here, but let’s briefly explore what means for our customers and partners here in the UK.
“AI will fuel tremendous advancement for business and society.”
HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models is a public cloud service, enabling any enterprise or SMB to privately train, tune and deploy large-scale AI through an on-demand multi-tenant supercomputing cloud service. This means that organisations won’t need to build their own on-premises supercomputers, instead using HPE’s AI software which will be powered by nearly 100% renewable energy. As part of the announcement, we also saw three new AI inferencing solutions launched.
Antonio’s announcement makes AI accessible to a much wider audience, hitting a range of aspirations for many organisations. HPE GreenLake for Large Language Models provides the opportunity for businesses to dip their toe in the AI water whilst meeting sustainability and ethical requirements, and at an adequate price point.
This was not the only HPE GreenLake announcement; we heard some really exciting updates on innovation, new cloud services and an expanded private cloud portfolio. HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition is a significant expansion to the platform, providing an ‘as-a-Service’ update. Allowing quick deployment of virtual machines on private cloud, on-demand, HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition is built for the edge, focusing on automation and simplification.
These developments continue to build on our 2019 message of positioning HPE as an ‘everything-as-a-service’ business, and we are now trailblazing with our aaS offerings. With an increasing number of customers looking for an alternative way to drive their digital agenda, our expanding hybrid cloud solutions offer the modern cloud experience they want, with control, governance, performance, and predictability.
Expanding partnerships
Our partner ecosystem is evolving and growing, and we heard an announcement about our expanded partnerships with VMWare, AWS and Equinix:
- HPE GreenLake for VMWare Cloud Foundation emphasises our renewed partnership with VMWare, allowing our customers to step into their digital transformation journey.
- Offering additional HPE SaaS on the AWS marketplace, we’re working with AWS to simplify cloud transformation for enterprises with a simplified, unified hybrid cloud experience.
- With the same objective of providing fast access to hybrid cloud, we’ve extended our partnership with Equinix to give customers additional choice, flexibility, and balance in building their hybrid cloud strategy with HPE GreenLake private cloud at Equinix IBX data centres.
After acquiring IT operations management company, OpsRamp in March, it was announced at Discover that we are integrating the monitoring and management automation tool into HPE GreenLake. Cloud neutral, vendor agnostic and focused on AI-driven operations, this is a significant development, enabling multi-vendor and multicloud IT operations with full observability.
What else should you be aware of?
- Hybrid by design: HPE CTO Fidelma Russo continued the theme of harnessing the power of data-first modernisation and AI-driven workloads through innovative technologies.
“You have to protect your data that is running your enterprise, because it is your crown jewel. And you have to orchestrate your workloads across edge locations, private clouds and public clouds. Bringing these technologies and capabilities together with the purpose and intention of reducing complexity is what we refer to as hybrid cloud by design. HPE GreenLake is the single platform in the industry that was designed for hybrid.”
See Fidelma’s keynote in full here.
- Sustainability dashboard: Pradeep Kumar, senior vice president and general manager, HPE Services presented our new sustainability dashboard for HPE GreenLake, providing visibility, monitoring and management of IT energy consumption.
“Achieving sustainability targets in a hybrid IT environment can be complex and daunting. HPE breaks down this complexity with technologies and services that enable organisations to advance from strategy and design to operations and positive impact.”
See more about our sustainability developments here, including how we’re helping global engineering company, Danfoss, with a focus on sustainability.
- HPE GreenLake Platform test drive: HPE GreenLake continues to underpin everything good about HPE, being customer and partner driven and continuing to resonate with both. I wanted to see the updates for myself, so took a test drive of the platform to fully understand what the updates mean and to see the new integrations. These developments allow us to better support our customers and help them drive transformation and change with everything-as-a-service, as well as providing a path to cutting edge technologies and AI.
