HPE SimpliVity – Performance Benefit
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, organisations are looking for simpler and more efficient ways to manage their infrastructure and facilitate their remote-working colleagues to maximise their productivity. Easy to manage and scale, HPE SimpliVity is built for productivity. As part of that, we see capacity efficiency as a performance benefit.
In this video, I show how capacity efficiency and performance benefit are intrinsically linked, and how we can optimise the use of HPE SimpliVity to harness these benefits.
Performance benefit one - less data
HPE SimpliVity has capacity efficiency built deep into the platform, right from the start. Data goes through deduplication and compression once, automatically, right at the point of entry, making any savings right there and then.
Common data is immediately identified, leading to less data being written to the relevant drives. This leaves more performance capacity available to run the virtual machines (VMs) and workloads.
Performance benefit two – backup efficiency
Taking a backup of a VM uses capacity efficiency automatically, writing only the changes that have been made to the data between backup points, and ignoring any blocks of data that are already there. Recovery is quick, efficient, and recovers to the most recent point, near-instantly.
Performance benefit three – sending data
Within your HPE SimpliVity federation, data can be sent anywhere simply and quickly with automatic efficiency. Data is already in its most efficient form, so it uses minimal bandwidth to send only the unique blocks of data needed.
Cloning a VM is done in the same way. You simply create a new VM pointer and the clone is created within seconds.
Performance benefit four – disaster recovery
In the event of a disaster recovery situation, it’s quick and simple to move a VM to another location within the HPE SimpliVity federation. Only the required changes in data need to be sent – not the entire VM.
These benefits demonstrate the true data efficiency of HPE SimpliVity, saving capacity, boosting the performance of your infrastructure and the productivity of your team, wherever they are right now.
