Modernising UK public healthcare IT with HPE GreenLake
Modernising public healthcare IT with HPE GreenLake
A drive to modernise IT infrastructures across UK healthcare aims to create efficiencies, improve services and make the best use of squeezed budgets. Central to this push is the shift towards modern cloud solutions that support the unique requirements of a pressured healthcare service.
Offering a flexible, reliable and simple cloud solution, HPE GreenLake is built to tackle the specific challenges encountered by public sector services, and weโve been working with Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across the UKโs National Health Service (NHS) to ensure they see the real benefits of a modern hybrid cloud.
Creating a strong digital foundation
With over 67.7 million citizens to provide healthcare for, ICBs were created in 2022 to oversee the planning of health services, with a vision to improve outcomes across the NHS. Helping NHS Trusts across their regions to access and manage crucial funding and cashflow, ICBs are focused on implementing solutions to reduce complexities and create efficiencies, now and well into the future.
HPE GreenLake creates the perfect foundation to build a modern IT infrastructure, supporting ICBs in their digital transformation. A multi-cloud managed service, it brings together public and private clouds, simplifying access and operations and allowing applications and workloads to reside where they are best suited. With 70% of workloads still struggling to sit within a public cloud, HPE GreenLake allows legacy platforms and modern services to sit side by side in a hybrid cloud environment, reducing the gap between legacy and modern technology. A consumption model eliminates the risk of overprovisioning, providing fixed and predictable costs and making it easy to scale.
This strong foundation allows a wealth of modernisation to be developed on top with a future-proofed, scalable platform, as well as providing rich cyber resilience and enriched disaster recovery capabilities. Modernisation enables innovation to continue to improve clinical and patient services, such as operationalising AI through smart hospitals.
Simplifying operations with HPE GreenLake
A recent project saw us working with an ICB and NHS Trust who wanted to move to a consumption on demand model, via a cloud service. Having explored a range of options, they found that HPE GreenLake was not only half the cost of another popular providerโs cloud solutions but offered the reduced operational complexity and management they were looking for, along with transparent and predictable costs. This cloud solution helped them to stop โfirefightingโ issues and allowed their limited resources to take a more proactive approach.
HPE GreenLake delivered clinical applications for the Trust, helping optimise services from operating theatre management to patient blood management. The solution also delivered back-office applications including finance and risk management for the ICB. HPE GreenLake reduced the management burden, simplifying operations and future-proofing the platform, allowing more services to be easily added as required.
HPE GreenLake has allowed the ICB and Trust to get ahead of patient management, and they are now looking at further efficiencies across other key patient services to help deliver better clinical and patient outcomes. HPE GreenLake plays a key role in helping reduce carbon emissions, whilst being able to measure and report on the impact.
HPE GreenLake provides a simple, secure and future-ready edge-to-cloud solution, ideal for UK healthcare organisations looking to harness efficiencies. Find out more about HPE GreenLake here.
