The highlights and key messages of HPE Discover 2021
The highlights and key messages of HPE Discover 2021
HPE’s annual global ‘Discover’ event is a chance to learn about what’s new in the world of HPE. Customers are given the opportunity to hear about HPE’s strategy and vision for the forthcoming year, and any new solutions on the horizon. Discover 2021 was held online, with a range of virtual seminars and presentations, all of which are still available, on-demand. For me, this was our strongest messaging to market and demonstrates our intent as an organisation. An exciting strategy and execution plan that will shape and define what a Hybrid Cloud approach means to our customers.
The overarching message this year was around the strength of the HPE GreenLake brand and positioning HPE as an ‘edge to cloud’ provider. HPE’s CEO, Antonio Neri summed it up, saying,
“…we laid out a vision that GreenLake should be synonymous to HPE…it would be a good thing if people mistook HPE for GreenLake, rather than HP Inc”
Here at HPE we are leading the way with our ‘as-a-Service’ business model, using HPE GreenLake as the foundation for all our solutions. HPE GreenLake brings a cloudlike experience to organisations in a consumption-based model, so compute, storage and networking are delivered ‘as-a-Service’. The message from Discover 2021 was clear, that across all markets, HPE GreenLake is the definitive brand of our organisation.
This was supported by Jim Jackson, HPE’s Chief Marketing Officer who said that the,
“…GreenLake brand needs to become for HPE what Azure is for Microsoft”
Highlights
With so much content available to watch I thought I would highlight the key messages, from my perspective, at Discover this year.
HPE GreenLake Lighthouse
Discover 2021 launched HPE GreenLake Lighthouse. Designed to maximise workload performance, HPE GreenLake Lighthouse is a purpose-built cloud platform. It delivers an on-premise cloud native experience in an appliance-like solution. Using automation and orchestration HPE GreenLake Lighthouse runs cloud native applications that may be distributed anywhere from the edge through to the data centre.
HPE GreenLake Lighthouse will be a vital tool for organisations that need to spin demand up and down in an agile way, and we will be looking to market this to specific verticals to suit their requirements. This is a modular, flexible AI-driven solution, providing autonomous, scripted and templated views to drive workflows with a click of a button. We can deliver HPE GreenLake Lighthouse preconfigured, and then manage it on the organisation’s behalf.
HPE GreenLake Cloud Services
Reinforcing the ‘Everything-as-a-Service’ message, HPE GreenLake Cloud Services were presented at Discover to offer a cloud experience for all apps and data, wherever they reside. Offering a hybrid cloud model, HPE GreenLake Cloud Services deliver a flexible, scalable, on-demand infrastructure that is managed for each organisation. We even partner with third parties to offer a standardised, consistent HPE GreenLake model across all solutions.
We are taking a market-specific approach with HPE GreenLake Cloud Services, aligning solutions with the requirements of individual industries, for example, vertically aligned industry solutions specifically for Telco and medical industries.
HPE GreenLake Central was highlighted as an essential tool to provide a clear, centralised dashboard to view and control consumption, services and cloud operations across all the HPE GreenLake Cloud Services.
Silicon on-demand
Currently, HPE is the only provider that can offer silicon on-demand. This is an Intel service, and HPE is working with them to allow customers to add processor core capacity as they need it. In line with the HPE GreenLake as-a-Service model, silicon on-demand uses a consumption-based model for capacity, delivering CPUs on a pay-per-use basis and removing the need to install new processors. This solution will provide a more flexible cost profile to our customers, as well as giving HPE the potential for further as-a-Service solutions to be developed working alongside Intel.
Project Aurora
Project Aurorawas introduced at Discover as a plan to enable zero-trust security architectures from edge to cloud. This is a unique solution that holds the ability to trust nothing, right from the supply chain to the workload that is running off the infrastructure. Project Aurora will embed zero-trust security into HPE GreenLake, driving security using artificial intelligence to analyse expected outcomes. This will ensure every layer is secure, underpinning the HPE GreenLake Cloud Services.
Compute Cloud Console
Another HPE GreenLake gem announced at the event, Compute Cloud Console is a cloud-based service, automating compute operations across the entire organisation. Again, delivered as-a-Service, it delivers AI-driven insights, seamlessly managing the entire estate and identifying required updates from a single console.
Discover 2021’s message was around how HPE can simplify IT operations with flexible and simple HPE GreenLake solutions. Offering a single view, with everything as-a-Service, from complete IT and cloud services right down to storage and compute gives a consistency to any organisation’s infrastructure.
We live in a world that is data driven and insight focused, where the experience at the edge is just as important as the experience in the cloud and at the data centre. We live in a true Hybrid Cloud era where the ‘Cloud is Everywhere’ But what are your thoughts? I would love to hear them in the comments to this blog.
If you’d like to find out more, you can catch up with the HPE Discover 2021 programme
