1 Logical drive per Array?

In this example lets assume that I have 12x72.4 physical drives that will ultimately be 3 luns.

Should I create one 12 drive array with 3 0+1 logical drives

OR

3 4 drive arrays each with a 0+1 logical drive?

The space is the same either way but performance probably is not, please explain.

With one 12 drive array each lun is spread across more spindles but wouldn't the activity on one of the luns affect performance of the other 2?

Re: 1 Logical drive per Array?

You are correct about the LUNs affecting each other's performance... however..

That may not be a problem - it depends on how you use your array.

For example, for most uses, having one large disk group works well becuase most disk I/O is bursty by nature.

However, with databases, it's a good idea to seperate the data from the logs - mixing sequential and random access can cause you performance problems.
