Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

We're experiencing problem to connect an LT6000r under w2k to a VA7400 using D8602A HBA and Brocade 2800 switch. Netserver hang during w2k boot when it is connected to the switch.
Drivers are 3.0.4107.0 for the HBA (Agilent HHBA-5101C).

I could previously read in this forum that it was told to change Agilent HBA by Qlogic HBA.

Is somebody could help us?
Many thanks.

Re: Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

I had a similar problem when I was changing driver behavior from loop mode to fabric. QuickLoop on switch port was disabled. After installation of driver default port behavior is loop mode. Server boot without problems and initialise loop (switch port was FL). After I changed InitAsNPort registry key to activate fabric mode server was unable to boot. Solution was to disconnect cable from HBA. After that server was able to boot and initialise HBA in fabric mode. I reset the switch too, reconnected cables and after that everything works fine. (This happened on one server. Four other servers changed from loop to fabric without any problems. I think problem was my installation sequence. On "no problem" servers I installed driver, restart, changed registry, restart. On "problem" server I installed driver, changed registry, restart, went to problems.)

Re: Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

Sorry to be back so late on this point.
My isue was, in fact, that w2k server auto-detect 2 other SCSI/RAID generic adapter that confict the D8602A/B. I got this 2 generic card only when installing w2k with Navigator CD (not when manually installed by MS CD). If I uninstall these cards, w2k auto-detect them again at boot and hang. So I just disable it and know, all is OK.
May be the sequence to install driver and change the registry is important as well. I always done the registry change in the same time than installing driver.

Many thanks for your reply.
Bye.

Re: Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

Hi,

I have had almost the same problems about a month ago where the io's initiated on an xp would hang after about 15G was copied, after that, the system would hang.

We finally found out that the fc agilent cards were installed in the wrong pci slots and this would cause these strange behaviors. The server was an LT6000 and the correct slots were supposed to be 5 and 6 ... could this be the same situation here?

Cheers.

Re: Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

Same solution with same server...slot 5 and 6 don't solve the problem.

I really think that HBA D8602B may be good card, but the drivers 4107 are bugged.

Is anybody try Qlogic HBA in the same kind of plateform.

Kind regards
Didier.

Re: Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

Hi About 18 months ago when we installed are first HP-UX / W2K SAN, the W2K guys here had major issues with booting from the HP HBA's that came fitted to the servers (I can't recall off the top of my head what the server models are - can check tommorow when back in the office if its important.) but the initial booting problems were resolved by replacing the cards with Qlogic cards. Like you we are using Silkworm 2800's so it may well be worth getting some Qlogic cards in - we got our supplier to change them over as part of the installation deal.

Re: Brocade 2800 an D8602A isue with w2k

Thanks a lot Nick.

I'm effectivly pretty sure that the HP's HBA are not so "clean". Drivers are probably the origin of different problem.
FYI, we have experienced other trouble due to w2k auto discovering Generic SCSI/RAID card when booting. Uninstall the card don't solve the problem, but disable them was good. Note that this trouble was encontering only when installing the OS from the HP Navigator CD.

Kind regards
Didier.
