Brocade 4100 Switch Failure
Hi, We have an HP SAN switch (Brocade 4100) that has well and truly died. Unfortuantely we don't have the config saved for this switch - so we need to find out the best way to replace this switch.
Would it be best to delete the zoning from the original switch in the fabric, attach a new switch to the fabric, and go through a new process of zoning? Is that the easiest way?
I would be grateful for any help.
Thanks, Martin.

Re: Brocade 4100 Switch Failure
Martin,
it sounds like the dead switch was connected to at least one other switch. The replacement switch should come without any zoning configuration. If you connect it to the surviving switch - it should automatically learn the configuration - no need to enter everything again!
Make sure the replacement switch is set up with the same Domain-Id like the dead switch (some operating systems or a port-based zoning) requires this.

Re: Brocade 4100 Switch Failure
Zoning information exists in all switches of one physical fabric. Whenever you change zoning information - changes are transferred to all connected switches. So if at least one switch is alive - it holds all necessary zoning information for all fabric.
In your case:
1. Update firmware on your new switch.
2. Clean out all zoning/alias info on new switch.
3. Configure name and domain ID on new switch (set the same as on your dead switch)
4. Connect new switch to your original fabric.
Good luck!
