Solution
The 'Firmwaredownload' command automatically figures out the right folder.
The only thing to note is to setup a FTP service on a Win or Unix box with the homefolder pointing to the firmware. ie: /v5.0.5b/
The when you issue the 'firmwaredownload' command and follow the prompts it will ask for the filename, you simply enter the top folder name and release.plist ie:
File Name: v5.0.5b/release.plist
More info here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=3185340&swItem=co-45386-1&prodNameId=3185345&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=0
Same goes for the external brocade switch.
regards
Shahid

Re: Brocade switch upgrade what folder?
Firmware download of v3.1 to a 3800
SWT3800_51:admin> firmwareDownload
Server Name or IP Address [host]: 10.255.252.11
User Name [user]: anonymous
File Name [/usr/switch/firmware]: /firmware/v3.x/v3.1.0
Protocol (RSHD or FTP) [rshd]: ftp
Password:
DO NOT power cycle the switch!
writing flash 0 ........................................
writing flash 1 ........................................
download complete
Once u issue the Firmware download cmd , it will ask the host , user , password & firmware file --- >give absolute(full) path of the .plist

Re: Brocade switch upgrade what folder?
Hello Gerard,
My assumption is as below:
You have extracted the firmware to the directory /v5.0.2
You have to specify the path as /v5.0.2/release.plist
But you will not find the release.plist file in /v5.0.2. Based on the Switch Type (you can see this from the switchshow output), the appropriate release.plist will be pulled automatically. SWBDxx, where xx is the switch type.
