Can't access Command View EVA - command is in progress

Greetings,

We have a EVA300 which is at the latest rev. Often but not all the time, whenever I try to access the Command View EVA is stops and waits with this message:

A command is in progress on this management agent. You must wait for the outstanding command to complete before performing another action . . .

I don't know what command it's waiting for plus I'm the only person that accesses this SAN.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Vic

Is it possible that you've got multiple instances of Command View running at the same time? i.e. - didn't exit Command View completely before starting another session.

VCS firmware ?
Command view version ?
Is the SMA managing more than one EVA?
Event logs - any clues there

Restart of SMA - should help.
Else install latest patch of CV

Re: Can't access Command View EVA - command is in progress

We sometimes have a similar problem, when the CommandView GUI seems to be busy performing whatever internal tasks.
You can test with SSSU, as long as sssu works it is only a GUI issue.

As spartan said, reboot of cv host helps.

Re: Can't access Command View EVA - command is in progress

First thanks to everyone who replied.

I'm sure I don't have multiple instances of Command View running.

I don't often work with the EVA3000 so I'm having trouble navigating it to find the information.

VCS firmware - can't find it
Command View version - 4.1.2.2
The SMA (Storage Management Appliance?) is not managing more than on EVA.
In the System Log I found this:
0/18/2006 07:48:41 warning Print 0 3 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM CSUSAN1
10/18/2006 07:48:41 warning Print 0 4 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM CSUSAN1
10/18/2006 07:48:41 warning Print 0 8 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM CSUSAN1
10/18/2006 07:48:17 error TermServDevices 0 1106 CSUSAN1
10/18/2006 07:48:17 error TermServDevices 0 1111 CSUSAN1

I tried using SSSU and it hung up so I tried rebooting the SMA and the situation got worse. When I try to access the Command View EVA I now get:

HTTP Status 404, Not Found
User: 028A
Group: administrator
Request: /command_view_eva

Guess it's time to call support. Which group should I ask for?

Re: Can't access Command View EVA - command is in progress

Its wise that you call support as SMA is the key to ensure EVA health..

Meanwhile you may explore the option of SMS instead of SMA!!

Re: Can't access Command View EVA - command is in progress

I think you'll need to contact the Storage Support group. They handle SAN Management Appliance issues. It sounds like something on your SMA has been corrupted. I suspect you (or HP support) will have to re-build it from scratch. And FYI - SSSU commands go through the same channels as the Command View GUI so if Command View doesn't work SSSU won't either.
