Changing Host IP Address on Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA)

How does one change an IP address on a Host Entry on the EVA without having to unpresent the assigned storage LUN's ?

As far as i know you must leave it to dynamic ip assignment, there is no implementation for it (yet)

What IP address?

Are you talking about the WWID's of the HBA's in the SERVER(s) that the LUN is being presented too?

When we perform a "Hardware Move" we identify the WWID's of the new Alphaserver HBA's that we want to move our system too. (This assumes that your zoning is already done) Then we add those WWID's to the existing "HOSTS" on the LUNS involved. Next we shutdown the system on the old hardware, and boot from the new hardware. We then remove the old WWID's from the active HOSTS list.

Wow.
That's a good question.

It doesn't look like you can (at least with CMDView EVA 3.0a), which is weird, because I don't think that the IP address is actually used for anything.

I tried adding a new host, using the same WWNs, and of course, it didn't like that.

OK.
I verified that the IP address is not used, so you may not even have an issue.

However, if you **really** want to change the IP address, I came up with this work-around if you have 2 HBAs in the host and SecurePath (or LVM pvlinks), based on the following experiment:

. in HO (orig host entry) delete one of his ports. All the presentations to this WWN are lost, of course. (A path to the LUN will still be good because of SecurePath and redundancy -- I verified by doing I/O to the LUN).

. SecurePath will show one of the paths as FAILED

. add new host, HOx, using the deleted port from HO. I used the bogus IP address 1.1.1.1 just to verify that the IP address is meaningless, here.

. re-present the LUN to HOx

. Now, SecurePath shows all paths up and OK again !!!!!

Thus, you *could* continue the process and remove HO entirely and have a new host, HOx, with both ports.

At this point, create HO, again, this time with the new IP address that you want.
Now, repeat the above process, backwards, to migrate the WWNs to HO from HOx.

This seems a little ridiculous, especially for an unused, commentary field.
