Coexistence of SecurePath/XP and SecurePath/EVA

Simple question:

Can they peacefully co-exist?

Planning to have EVA5K and XP hooked up to the SAN and LUNS presented concurrently on servers.

Hi Nelson,

To the best of my knowledge, you can have either Secur Path XP or Secure Path EVA installed on a server - you would therefore have to chose which servers to have on which storage system.

Re: Coexistence of SecurePath/XP and SecurePath/EVA

Hi,

I don't know much of SecurePath XP, but this link

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/secure-path/index.html

claims, that there is one product for both. So, they can probably co-exist. Comments?

Re: Coexistence of SecurePath/XP and SecurePath/EVA

To the best of my knowledge the SecurePath version 4.0c SP1 contains the HP Autopath drivers which I think means you can hook up these two arrays to one server.
HP doesn't give any conclusive answers in this. Try and find out if you have some spare time :-)

Re: Coexistence of SecurePath/XP and SecurePath/EVA

I forgot to mention - this environment is all HP-UX 11i. Securepath 3.0D -- which is the latest bundles two versions - one for the EVA and the other for the XP (which is AutoPath basically).

In a previous attempt at upgrading SecurePath 3.0C to SecurePath 3.0D, an admin erroneously selected SecurePath 3.0D for XP and the result was that he could not install the XP version and if I recall right - it was complaining about SecurePath already installed.

I was told that HP marketing told our procurement team that the version of SecurePath 3.0D installed for our EVA "should" communicate with the XP as well -- which I tnink is inaccurate. Yes there is the same version release but specifically for the XP. The EVA version has the hsx layer and the swsp layer which is specific for the EVAs.

I raised a ticket with Mission Critical support and they confirm that yes indeed the EVA version will not communicate with the XP and that we will need the XP version installed as well - and that "coexistence" is supported. When I asked if they can refer a customer to me or if they actually have in in a lab somewhere - they said yes but could not provide details.

Our course of action would possibly be to just use PVLINKS for the XP or if we can get money for full license of VxVM - to just use DMP.

Re: Coexistence of SecurePath/XP and SecurePath/EVA

Interistingly, a new version of SecurePath - version 3.0E - is now available! This version adds support for the XP12000. Could this be a prelude to customers actually planning mass migrations from the problem plagued EVAs to the ultra-reliable XP platforms?

Am downloading the installer to see if it is a unified release -- meaing single driver/layers for access to EVA and XP LUNs...

Will let everyone know..

Re: Coexistence of SecurePath/XP and SecurePath/EVA

Same thing.

One depot for XP and another depot for EVA (hsx class arrays).

HP did confirm that both XP and EVA Securepath versions can be installed and co-exist... Am still skeptical BUT I will test as soon as possible.
