Connecting a Storagetek FLX (SATA disk array) to EVA
Hi ,
My original setup included 4 rp5400's all connected to an EVA3000 ( over the FC SAN Brocade switches ) which is runnin Oracle RAC on MCSG. I was running online backups of the Oracle DB which was taking like 10 hours for 350GB. To reduce this backup window we went in for a Storagetek SATA drive solution primarily since we are backing up using Veritas Netbackup and Storgatek Tapelibrary. To cut costs and other things we hooked up the FCs from the FLX 240 ( Storagetek-Engenio) controllers to the SAN switches which do not have ZOning configured, as such all ports see all ports.
Like the EVA , the FLX brochure commits 395 mbs , but again these are not real figures in the field and i have been able to achieve an average of just 35mb/sec which in comparion is ridiculous unless ofcourse we have a performance issue on the EVA which is limiting it to that speeds.
My primary question is " any suggestions " ??!!!
I have noticed something else that caught my eye. I have 2 HBAs on each server goin to 2 different SAN switches for load balancing and failover ( managed by Secure Path ) ; then i have 2 cables from EACH SAN switch to the EVA controllers ( HSV1100) . When i look at Switch Utilization Report by port , i see only one of these paths being used, it looks like for the multiple paths from the EVA controllers to the SAN switch , only FAil over is configured and not load balancing, is this normal ?
Thanks for reading the whole thing!!!
Awaiting comments.
Victor
