Connecting fabrics using Ciena 2000 boxes.
We are trying to create a fabric which spans two locations which are separated by ~5Km, and linked through Ciena 2000 SAN extender boxes.
At one end (Site 1) is an Alpha Server connected to an HP (Brocade) 4/32 SAN Switch, which is in turn connected to the Ciena 2000 at that location.
The other end (Site 2) is an EVA5000 connected to an HP (Brocade) 2/16 SAN Switch, and then to the Ciena 2000 at that site.
At site 1, the switch can see the Alpha HBA (on port 27), No Problem there.
Ciena has dialed in to the ciena box and confirmed that the inter-site connectivity is good.
At site 2. The switch sees the WWID from the controller on the EVA, so we are good there.
Problem, communications are not making it through. The EVA cannot see the Alpha HBA, and the Alpha cannot see presented LUNs.
The basic problem seems to be that the switches are not talking to each other. The two switches are currently running FOS 5.1.0d.
Before making any connections, all existing configurations were erased, so no zoning. The domain ID's on the two switches are different, and nothing else is connected to this fabric.
The switch ports which are connected to the Ciena boxes have not been configured in any way, and therein (we think) lies the problem.
Two Questions:
1. Is this a configuration that anyone might be familiar with, and is our suspicion (regarding the switch port lack of configuration) correct.
2. Can anyone offer any port configuration suggestions for switches connected to SAN extenders, specifically Ciena boxes.
All suggestions gratefully received.
Dave.
