Hi,
I am having a SGI server running on IRIX 6.5, having QLA2310 HBA connected to the Brocade 3800 switches. On one of the Brocade switch i get the following console messages
Dec 17 01:52:32.399 port 8: PLOGI s_id=0x90800 d_id=0xfffffc cos=0x8 df_size=2048
Dec 17 01:53:04.499 port 9: FLOGI 0x090900 cos=0x8 bb_credit=7 df_size=2048 cf=0x800
Dec 17 01:53:04.549 port 9: PLOGI s_id=0x90900 d_id=0xfffffc cos=0x8 df_size=2048
Dec 17 01:53:13.549 port 9: FLOGI 0x090900 cos=0x8 bb_credit=7 df_size=2048 cf=0x800
Dec 17 01:53:13.616 port 9: PLOGI s_id=0x90900 d_id=0xfffffc cos=0x8 df_size=2048
Dec 17 01:53:21.599 port 9: FLOGI 0x090900 cos=0x8 bb_credit=7 df_size=2048 cf=0x800
Dec 17 01:53:21.666 port 9: PLOGI s_id=0x90900 d_id=0xfffffc cos=0x8 df_size=2048
Dec 17 01:53:23.116 port 9: FLOGI 0x090900 cos=0x8 bb_credit=7 df_size=2048 cf=0x800
Dec 17 01:53:23.166 port 9: PLOGI s_id=0x90900 d_id=0xfffffc cos=0x8 df_size=2048
But on the second brocade switch i am not getting any console messages. the moment i break my HBA to switch connectio Console messages stops appearing on the console.
Can any one let me know whats the reason of these console messages, and how can i stop these console messages appearing on the console. I need a no logging console, as this is affecting the automation script.
Thanks and Regards
Sushil

Solution
Looks like you have a misbehaving HBA. You can stop the console messages with the quietmode command. Set it to "1", so the messages stop. I would set it back to "0" after the issue is resolved with the HBA.
Brocade:admin>quietmode
Quiet Mode is OFF
Brocade:admin> quietmode 1
Committing configuration...done.
Quiet Mode is now ON

Sincerely,
Curt

Re: Console messages on Brocade Switch
Thanks Curts,
I was also suspecting my HBA.
Could you please suggest, what could be wrong with the HBA.
Thanks
Sushil

Re: Console messages on Brocade Switch
Hi Sushil,
Actually, it could be several things. It appears the HBA connected to that port is continuously logging into the fabric, then disconnnecting, then repeating. A variety of things could cause this, but I usually start with the easiest first. Assuming you have a spare SPF or GBIC - swap that out and see if it changes. Next I would try the FC cable. Many times I have seem FC cables get pinched and cause a flaky connection. Next I would try the HBA. Depending on the storage you are using, you may need to change the security table to reflect the new WWN on the HBA allow the LUNs to be seen by the new HBA. After that, it could be a driver, or even the switch.
It can get complex if you're not familiar with the SAN - so if you have HP support, I would log a service call. If you are going to troubleshoot it yourself, hopefully this will help.
Good Luck!
Curt
