We are currently using MPIO FF DSM v2.00.01 on our EVA 3000. Under certain circumstances we are recovering a customer's Intel Windows Server which has been attached to an MSA running Securepath in the live enviroment on to our EVA.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
I'm a little confused by your question. Neither the EVA3000 or an MSA runs SecurePath or MPIO.
Those are software packages that run on the connected hosts...
If you want to move from one to another, it should just be a case of uninstalling SecurePath, then installing MPIO...
You might want to consider configuring your zoning so that only one path is visible to each host during the migration, to prevent the hosts seeing multiple disks.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
At the download page for Secure Path you can find the procedure to migrate from Secure Path to MPIO FF (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1825351&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=315586&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005).
I hope this can help you.
Regards.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
i found two different documents for SP 4.0c Migration to MPIO FF 3.0. One seems to be faulty and misleading, or is there something what i didn't understand:
http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01393133/c01393133.pdf
I am missing the deinstallation of Secure Path in the above document. But it is exactly named for my task, because i have to migrate from MSA1000 active/passiv to Active/active.
Can somebody give me a clue.
In the document, previous provided by Juan it is more simple.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
the secure path is equivalent with the MPIO basic version. They both work with Active/Passive EVA controllers. MPIO FF is not applicable in Active/Passive EVA controller firmwares

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
but from the functionality point of view the Secure path solution even if it going to be obsolete has some features which the MPIO basic version does not have -> e.g. it has the CLI -> SPMGR, it has the load balancing feature and the MPIO basic does not have them

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
Hi,
thanks for your reply, but i stated that i am talking about MSA1000 active/active SP 4.0c to MPIO 3.0 FF (Full Feature) Function.
Though the question is:
Should Secure Path and MPIO 3.0 FF run on the same system, and what is the advantage ? In the document from JUAN there is the advice to deinstall and in the other not .

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
yes they can coexist on 1 system. MPIO FF will see only MSA 1000 A/A controller luns and SecurePath will see only the EVA 3000 A/P luns

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
SecurePath is not Active/Active but Active/Passive. It can be use e.g. with EVA 3000, up to the firmware 3.110, and it cannot be used with EVA 3000 with the Active/Active controller firmware which latest is 4.1x

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
but in my case there is no EVA. Is there anything wrong or could i loose an advantage
when i use this procedure:

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
the linked upgrade code is correct and you are not losing anything:
In general
the AP controller firmware (eva/msa) can be handled only via sec_path and mpio basic
the AA controller firmware (eva/msa) only via mpio ff.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO on an EVA
We had issues with secure path once we upgraded teh firmware on our controllers and had to remove the controllers to get the Server too boot.
in steps..we
1) unpresented the disks
2) upgraded the firmware to supported and suggested level by hp.
3) secure did not like above and had to remove cards for server to boot.
4) removed secure path and rebooted.
5) Installed cards and restatred server.
6) updated storport and scsiport drivers -reboot
7) installed mpio basic (san not active active yet).
8) represented disk (windows rescan)
9) all is working fine.
hope that helps
cheers
Steve
