Converting from Securepath to MPIO

What is the correct procedure to convert from Securepath to MPIO? I am running Windows Server 2003 and MSA1000.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

Hi,
if you are running the Active/Passive MSA controller firmware (latest is 5.20) you can use only the limited basic MPIO version which e.g. does not have any CLI. In other words upgrade from the SecurePath to the MPIO (full featured) makes sense only in the Active/Active storage controller firmware (7.x) environment.
Then you simply stop the IO from the host to the MSA and then uninstall the SecurePath and install the full featured MPIO

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

Hello Panzer,

I did it many times this way:

- Unpresent LUNs on passive path
- Uninstall Secure-Patch
- Reboot Server
- Install MPIO FF or MPIO Basic
- Activate the second path by SSP

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

Since this an MSA1000 I cannot use the full feature MPIO, right?

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

Hello Panzer,

you can use MPIO FF if you have a MSA1000 or 1500cs with firmware release 7.0 (A/A). If you're using a firmware below 7.0, you must use MPIO Basic.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

Hi,
you can use the MPIO FF but remember pls that the upgrade to the latest A/A firmware 7.x is irreversible. The same applies to the upgrade to the latest MSA 1000 A/P firmware 5.20.

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

Could you tell me the correct process for upgrading Securepath to MPIO on an EVA 3000/4000?

Re: Converting from Securepath to MPIO

You should open a new thread so that you can give the points.

That said. You'll need to see if the 3000 is running active/active or active/passive.

The 4000 is active/active. Because you'll need to determine which flavor of MPIO to install FF for A/A and Basic for A/P it would be nice if you could use the same MPIO for both the 3000 and the 4000.
