Core 2/64 configuration question

I've worked with the StorageWorks 2/16 switches before and very used to how they store configurations. I always had a single switch in one fabric, so things were easy.

Now we have a Core 2/64, running 4.1.0 and I'm experiencing some different behaviors. Since the 2/64 is really two 64 port switches in a chasis, I assumed both fabrics were completely independent (assuming no ISLs between the two switches).

However, when I configured the switch I setup SW0 with zoning and aliases. I got that all working nicely, and then went into SW1. The web interface listed all my zones, and the running configuration was the same as SW0. The aliases were also there.

This goes contrary to my thinking about two switches in the same chasis. I was under the impression that each switch would be completely separate and have it's own zoning configuration, aliases, etc.

Does this mean to get two totally separate fabrics that I would have to get another Core 2/64, and run ISLs between SW0 and SW1 in each chasis so that the overlaping configs only occured in the same chasis?

One of my goals for getting a 2/64 was to have 2 totally sparate fabrics and configs 'in a box' and then later expand to a second 2/64 for increased availability.

Am I totally missing something?

Re: Core 2/64 configuration question

Just to clarify, you have two blades in slots 1 and 2 and two blades in slots 7 and 8?

Re: Core 2/64 configuration question

Ya know, now that I think back, I'm thinking the domain ID I saw when I was in the 'sw1' zoning wizard was the same (10) as sw0. Maybe something funky was going on with the IPs and which switch I was really accessing.

Let me double check tomorrow that I really was connected to the second switch.

Re: Core 2/64 configuration question

Well I checked again, and yes, both logical switches do have the same configuration. I e-mailed my Brocade CFP260 instructor, and he said that what I'm seeing is not right. Has anyone gotten a 2/64 lately and upgraded to 4.1.0 and using it as two logical switches?

Re: Core 2/64 configuration question

I have had a 12K split as two switches with the 1st half as domain 1 and the 2nd half as domain 2. It worked fine with v4.0.2b. I would definitely open a ticket with the vendor you purchased the switch from.

Re: Core 2/64 configuration question

The strange thing is that now the switches are independent again. I never ISL'd the two switches, so I'm not sure how the config got across. But I changed the config in switch 1 and it is saying, and not impacting switch 0. Weird...
