disk scrubbing

I'm preparing the technical report of the EVA5000 for a public tender, and I'm not sure if such storage system has the disk scrubbing feature, with a proactive scanning.
I know that EMC has such feature but I would like to know if EVA5000 has too.

Thank you

Re: disk scrubbing

Massimiliano,
I have read somewhere that the service organization can initiate a meta-data scan, but that's all I know. On the other hand, all fibre disks in the EVA are supposed to have the S.M.A.R.T. feature.

Re: disk scrubbing

Emilio,
you have confused the EVA (Enterprise Virtual Array) with the VA (Virtual Array). The EVA is from the Digital/Compaq line - the VA is from the HP line. This thread is about the EVA, not the VA.

Re: disk scrubbing

Massimiliano,

When we were in competition with an EMC reseller to sell a storage solutions with a disk array to a big hospital here in Holland, that customer asked me the same question about the EVA5000.
Regarding the Disk Scrubbing feature on the EMC line of disk arrays, i was told EMC is fencing with this argument as a feature that the EVA does not have.
This is actually not true at all.
The EVA does have this feature, only its nog called Disk Scrubbing.
To my understanding this functions is in the EVA alghorithm called levelling together with the S.M.A.R.T capability of the disks (which iun advance now when they wil encounter a problem, which is discovered by scrubbing the disk.

thats my understanding of things, marketing ;-
