EVA 5000 Disk Failure Query
Dear All,
I had some query on EVA Disk utilitisation, before i take you to my problem let me tell you what is the Capacity & Usage of EVA,
Storage EVA 5000
1.> 72.2*54 GB SCSI Disk
2.> Total Capacity = 3481.31GB
3.> Available Storage Space = 154.31GB
4.> Disk Showing In Red Led Are 3no's
5.> In Command EVA Default Disk Group Disk 029 is in red Colour, Disk 052 is in Yellow Colour.
6.> In Disk Enclosure 3, Bay 1 Leftmost, is showing yellow mark and disk is in red led.
So by this will my EVA will have any problem since i have to procure new disk / renew the AMC for this it may take time. Just i am worried will it effect our EVA as per the above available capacity.
And pls help me in replacing these disk is there any steps for that? if so, pls give me the proper steps.
Thanks All in Advance,
Regards,
Aravind

Re: EVA 5000 Disk Failure Query
You really need to get the failed disk(s)replaced asap and added back into the disk group, I would suggest buying extra disk to give yourself extra capacity, 10% of available storage on your disk group is not a lot and it would be safer to have more.
Ensure you have complete backups of all the data, just in case.
What is your Disk Protection Level set to on the default disk group?
If your DPL is set to none then the EVA only has 154GB left to rebuild disks in the event of further failures.
If it is set to Single then there will be about 140GB (2 x Largest disk in group) of a buffer in addition to the 154GB of available storage.
DPL of double will add another 140GB to the buffer.
To replace any failed disk (red Cross) just take out the failed disk and replace with a new one.
Then in CV select the Disk Group and select Add Disks, type in the munber of disks and click Add.
Might be better if the disk with the warning is still migrating data off to leave this until it has completed the process and has changed state to failed.
