We are planing alocate a EVA 8000 & XP 12K disks to same windows 2003 server , I like to know zoning & maaping eva & XP disk through same HBA will create any issue to the server performace & stability ?

Re: EVA & XP disk allocation to a same Wintel server , Will be a issue ?

I would recommend against mapping EVA and XP luns through the the same port/HBA.

Eventhough the XP disks and EVA disks are in different zones, the HBA (initiator) WWN would be a member of both EVA and XP disk zones causing a potential availabillity problem. For instance, a SAN State Change notification (SCN) in the EVA disk zone would also trigger a SCN in the cause IO in the XP disk zone to be temporarily stopped as well.

I would use separate HBA's for EVA and XP presentations. MPIO for EVA and XP can coexist on the same server (documented in teh MPIO release notes)

hope this helps,

Hello Eric,

even if you're using a single initiator/ single target zoning?! I don't think so.

I would recommend a single initiator/ single target zoning. By using this there shouldn't any problem sharing an HBA for EVA and XP presentations.

I recommend to check the SAN Design guide.
