EVA and Texas Memory Systems RamSan interoperability

Hi

Configuration as follows:
EVA5000 (moving to EVA8000)
4 servers also in the same zone as the EVA for a core cluster, using Polyserve Matrix Server. (Equivalent to HP EFS cluster)

Looking to add a Texas Memory Systems RamSan into the same zone as these to add faster disk to be presented to the clustered servers. The RamSAN is solid state disk and therefore will greatly increase access and write/read time where its needed.

Has anyone tried this or seen a similar configuration working?
Any thoughts as to if there will be any issues with these in the same zone?

thanks

Craig

Why not create a second zone with the RamSan and the server's adapters? A Fibre Channel port can be in multiple zones at the same time, but no data will flow between ports that are not in the same zone.

Re: EVA and Texas Memory Systems RamSan interoperability

Hi Craig,

i would assume that you put the SSD into a second Zone as already mentioned.
About 6 Weeks ago, we did Test the TexMemSys
RamSan 400 (4 GB-FC) with 4xPolyServe Matrix Server and the Performance was superior.
The only Issue is the Multipath Support for the SSD Lun`s, because you have to use a "open" Multipath Solution like Veritas, a older Version of Powerpath etc. and that`s not the Stuff i like to use.

The Test also included, as a second Step, the use of a Storage Virtualization and PolyServe / SSD. You have to use a Inband-Virtualization(in the DataPath) for PolyServe to work. Everything worked out and the Mutlipath Issue was handled by the Storage Virtualization very well. The Lun Extension, which is supported by PolyServe works even great. Another nice Feature is the Mirror-Capability between different Storage Vendors. Like a Mirror from the SSD to Hitachi Subsystems.

We were so satisfied by the TexMemSys RamSan Performance, that we ordered a System for our Environment.
Be sure to Order the "Active Backup" Solution from TexMemSys if you should buy a SSD.
Hope the Information helps You.

By the Way, do you use MatrixServer for Windows or Linux?

Thanks for the info! We are using Polyserve Matrix server for Windows
