EVA Continuous Access 3rd Site
Hi,
I am installing a pair of EVA 8100's and using CA to replicate data between these.
The customer has now asked for advice on replicating to a 3rd site. I have told them that they can do this but only by using CA between the initial two sites, then performing a snapclone and then replicating this to the 3rd site. I have also said that this can be automated using RSM or SSSU, but the 3rd site would only be as up to date as the last snapclone.
They have asked if there are any plans to support 3 way replication on the EVA, as is currently supported on XP and EMC. Alternatively if there is any other product that could be used to do this without having a major impact on performance on the primary sites.
I think Brocade DMM may be able to do this, but at a cost!!!
Any other suggestions?

Re: EVA Continuous Access 3rd Site
Hi,
Your question (Q6) and answer (A6) can be found here:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/conaccesseva/qa.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#6
For CA, there are only 2 members in a mirrorset (2 sites)
The overview of available HP replication solutions can be found in the
a)SAN design guide, part IV. SAN extension and bridging
b) continuous access overview and features:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/conaccesseva/index.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
For OpenVMS only there is the solution for 3 member in a mirrorset (3 sites): Host-based volume shadowing (HBVS) - implemented on a software at the host level in comparison of the CA, which is implemented on a software (firmware) at the controller subsystem level.
For 3 sites there can be also the HBVS and CA combination

the pain is one part of the reality

Re: EVA Continuous Access 3rd Site
Sorry I should have said... the main systems are in a Windows and Linux environment, using PolyServe Clustered Gateways. There is also an ESX cluster environment.
