EVA Information

Hi ,

I have an EVA6100 with 300GB * 40 Disk drives , 2C4D ,
i have given level protection one of one disk group that contain all 40 disks , in case i am using VRAID5 to create my Virtual disks what wil be my total usable space

thank you

Re: EVA Information

About 8.48 Software TeraBytes:

300*38/1.25/1.024/1.024/1.024 -10 = 8483.66

Re: EVA Information

Hi,
this older EVA3000 presentation
www2.openvms.org/kparris/eva_intro.ppt
(the virtualisation theory did not changed)
shows the following:
a) EVA RAID1 and RAID5 algorithms (slides 9-10)
b) net capacities examples (slides 14-16)

In your case:
raw capacity =12000GB
metadata (slightly more than 20GB per disk, here down-rounded) = -800GB
single disk protection (2x300GB)= -600GB
RAID5 (4D+1P) =/1.25
=============================================
= 8480GB
DG occupancy level e.g. 90% = -848GB
Total usable approximation = 7632GB

the pain is one part of the reality

Re: EVA Information

But maybe the most flexible for you is to play with the storage sizing tool to see all your potential configurations and their capacity demands:

Re: EVA Information

Hi Toni,

You can also get this information using the StorageWorks Sizing Tool, available here:
