I just rebuilt my SAM management appliance from the recovery CD. Installed all the updates, patches and Storage area manager. When I go into command view eva, it say that no storage systems are visible to the HSV agent for...
What have I done wrong? I reset my switches and reset the HSV100's.
Anyone have any clue?
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Re: EVA3000 not detecting
the restore CD comes with a very old version of CV-EVA. Did you update it, too? There should be a CD-ROM in the SOM box, together with the SAM CDs.

SolutionIf that didn't help, my next check would be on the SMA. Do a local login on the SMA. Somewhere under [Start]->[Programs]->? there is an entry for an 'Emulex Utility'. Sorry, don't have an SMA handy to look. This allows some diagnostic, because you can find out which target WWNs the adapters can see. Be careful not to change any settings!
The next usual suspect would be the zoning, but if you just rebuilt the SMA, there was no reason to make a change here, right?

Re: EVA3000 not detecting
Let's step back a moment...
Has this _ever_ worked or is this a modification to an existing installation?

Re: EVA3000 not detecting
Hi,
You say you reset the EVA and your switches. How did you go about this? (what commands did you run). You can disable all zoning by running cfgdisable from a telnet session on the switch. That way you won't delete the config, just disable it, meaning no zoning would then be in effect. Then every device in the fabric should be able to see every other device. Before you do that, can you post the output (attached as a text file, please :-) ) of the following telnet commands on your switch(es):
switchshow
nsshow
zoneshow
Command View EVA 3.3.0.14 is the latest version. Does it still say no storage systems visible with this version?
For the SAM 3.2 saying version unknown, there's a fairly straightforward solution. You need to run a few commands from the DOS prompt on the appliance to get the version number displayed correctly. Here's a document on how to do it:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/sanworks/techdoc/managementappliance/AA-RTEDB-TE.pdf
Read page 18 for the commands. Although it says version 3.0 and 3.1, it's the same for 3.2 as well. Note: do NOT copy and paste the commands directly out of the PDF to your command line!!! You need to delete the quote marks and re-type them in Notepad. (or else type the whole command manually).
Regards,
Stephen

Re: EVA3000 not detecting
I got discouraged and redid the QuickRestore. It can see the EVA now WOOHOO!!! I guess I might have done something wrong during the installation of some software. Taking it step by step now.
Thanks for all your help, you guys are great.
Keep up the good work.
