EVA3000: RAID question

Hello
I have one EVA3000 storage. I want use 21 physical disks.
Can I create only one Disk Group and then create some RAID1 vdisk and other RAID5 vdisk?
Or I must create two different Disk Groups?

Re: EVA3000: RAID question

Hi,

In one diskgroup can you create individual luns with VRAID5, VRAID1 or VRAID0 (not advisable) protection.

So the answer is : you can do it in one diskgroup.

Re: EVA3000: RAID question

You create one disk group and you can create VRAID1 and VRAID5 on the same disk group.

You must be aware that when a disk fails, it affects to all RAIDs created on the same disk group.
Por que hacerlo dificil si es posible hacerlo facil? - Why do it the hard way, when you can do it the easy way?

Re: EVA3000: RAID question

Note that only an even number of disks (in your case, 20) will be used for the VRAID1 VDisks. Which is why setting the virtual hot-spare parameter for the disk group to single masks out TWO physical disks-worth of storage space, and setting to double masks out FOUR.
Personally, I'd recommend adding the 22nd disk to balance the VDISK utilization across the disks in the group.

It's not clear to me.... I want to create some VRAID1 vdisks and other VRAID5 vdisks using 21 physical disks. It's not possible???

Hi fabrizio,

What do you think about a training in HP?
Or perhaps just read the manuals or best practices!!!
