EVA3000 SAN Disk in blank group

EVA3000/SAN I have "Big Disk Group" that once had 16 146Gb disks, but now it has 14 disks. The two remaining disks that should be in that group are listed as Grouped but the Group Name field is blank. I cannot remove either disk, nor can I ungroup it, as the Warehouse doesn't know what group to remove it from. Has anyone seen this and know how I can get these two disks either in the right group or ungroup them? Thanks! Jenny

Re: EVA3000 SAN Disk in blank group

Hi Jenny,

That doesn't sound like normal behaviour...

Have you tried rebooting the machine running Command View EVA - probably your San Management Appliance.... That might clear things up.

If not, you should take a look at the Controller Event logs to see if there's anything strange going on...

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Re: EVA3000 SAN Disk in blank group

Something similar happened when we replaced 2 failed disks. It turns out we had to be really slow when inserting new disks to allow Command View to pick up disk names etc. before inserting another disk.

If the disks are unusable and your sure they aren't grouped with no data on them, then I'd see if you can physically remove and re-insert them one at a time and then group them back into the disk group.

Re: EVA3000 SAN Disk in blank group

Working with an EVA8000 last week, after replacing a faulted disk, the disk showed it was grouped but the disk group was "n/a".

Stopping and restarting the Command View EVA service cleaned it up; the disk showed the group to which it had been added after that.

Re: EVA3000 SAN Disk in blank group

Thanks to Rob and Sheldon - I rebooted the Whse Mgmt Appliance and the two disks did show up in the correct group with all info as it should be. This is the first time I'd seen anything like this and it could well be that these were replaced and not picked up when they were inserted into the slot. I have not yet had time to verify that they were or were not replaced, but it's possible. I appreciate the responses!

Re: EVA3000 SAN Disk in blank group

Sheldon, I notice that since this last reboot, the desktop and toolbar are displayed for only about 20-30 seconds before it blanks out and I can only log out/back in to see it. Do you know what changed with the rebooting? Any clues on how to get the desktop, toolbar, start button, etc to stay on the screen of the Warehouse? Thanks, Jenny
