FABRIC SEGMENTED

I'm cascading two 8/EL (floor3) using port 7 to two 16/EL(floor5) using port 0. The problem is i get this error msgs:

port 7 ID 2GB : enable: FABRIC SEGMENTED;E-port incompatible, flow control error

port 0 ID 2GB :enable:FABRIC SEGMENTED; E-port(unknown)

Any idea of what causing this kind of error?
U can find diagram attached to depict the architecture.

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

Hi

Is your port7 of the 16EL in a zone while port0 is not? (high-level)because often when merging two fabrics, zoning information from the two previously separated fabrics is merged as much as possible into the new fabric. Sometimes, zoning inconsistency can occur and zoning information cannot be merged!(low-level)what does the
PortStatshow say? Are your switches at the latest firmware level? Did you try to put your isl into the same quad (eg 0 to 0)or (7-7)

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

There are a couple of gotcha's here.

#1. PID mode. Does the PID mode match on all of the switches? If you are only using 8 and 16 port switches, it doesn't really matter if you use 0 or 1. 1 is needed for greater than 16 port switches.

2.) The "EL" license only allows up to 3 switches in a single fabric. If you are trying to add a 4th, it will not allow the connection. you have to buy the full (Regular) SAN switches. Or upgrade from EL to regular.

3.) If you already have a zoning configuration on both switches enabled, you will not be able to merge the two switches. you have to disable the zoning on one switch first before the fabric merge can take place. I always disable/clear/delete/save the configuration on any new switch prior to adding it into the existing fabric.

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

Try the fabstatshow (fabstatsshow) command, it will tell you why the segmentation happened.

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

If the error states flow control, then it is likely to be the BB_Credit. Check the switches have BB_Credit set to the same value using Configure->fabricparameters otherwise check the ports are not fixed to different baud rates 1G/2G rather than auto If it still don't work, compare fabric port configuration settings on all switches.

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

problems solved.i change every switch to the last port. port 15 on 16/EL cascade to port 7 on 8/EL

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

Are you sure that is a permanent fix and not some 'workaround'? If I recall correctly, while the -EL switches have limited fabric/E_Port licenses it did not matter _which_ port to use.

There was a rumor that only Port_7 on the SANswitch 8-EL was available for E_Port connectivity, but I was able to use another port instead. Does anybody know if that has changed under later firmware releases?

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

Use the first 4 port to cascade

Re: FABRIC SEGMENTED

I think richard was on the right lines with the BB_credit. When we changed our port types to El to up the credit value we had to make sure the VCS translation fields were off on both sides to stop this problem.
