FC Card Error

Hi,

Currently I had 2 x rp2470 servers and each server install a HP Taychon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapater Card.

Both Servers connect with Brocade Switch( 16 Ports) and the switch connect with the storage.

when I do ioscan -funC disk and I cant see any external storage disk. I re-check by ioscan and I can see the FC card have been Claimed. Please Help why I cant see external storage. Is any file need edit or set.

regards
Leon

Re: FC Card Error

Hello Leon,
FC adapters are auto-sencing for topology (private loop, public loop or fabric) and if your brocade do not have special settings (like quickloop, zoning) it should work in fabric (N-port). But did you check you configured storage devices to work in fabric? Are they capable? I believe what can you try right now is to move switch to quickloop mode (qlenable), it will become a hub and private loop will be formed. It may help and you'll see devices. But only if you have quickloop licence for brocade.
The best solution, if you have switch, is to have all devices capable and running in fabric.
Check 'supportshow' brocade's output - all devices should be claimed as N-ports. To set devices up to fabric please read their user's manuals.
Good luck!

Re: FC Card Error

First question: Has your brocade switch been zoned correctly?

Even if it hasn't you should be able see what WWN (world wide name) of each host from your switch. (switchshow) This will determine if the switch is seeing the card on your host. You can use the various options of the '/opt/fcms/bin/fcmsutil /dev/td?' to display information.

What type of external storage? If it is an EMC for instance, you should have gatekeeper devices showing if everything has been cabled correctly.

Re: FC Card Error

Are your WWN numbers zoned correctly to see any disks on the storage .

Re: FC Card Error

Hi Eugney,Michael and Ashwani,

The external storage is Hitachi storage and initally one of rp2470 can detect 8 Hdds from Hitachi Storage. After we swap the fibre channel cable with other firbe channel cable with another rp2470 and the orginal rp2470 cant detect external storage. So the FC card is ok and fine ? I need re-configuration on switch ?

thanks for fast reply

You need to have someone help you with configuring your brocade switch.

Re: FC Card Error

Once you make a change like this, you will need to re-zone your switch. Once you have re-zoned, you must run an 'ioscan -fn' so your system can recognise your disks. Did you do a 'vgexport' before you unplugged the cable?
