Finding EVA software on HP FTP server
But how do you guys find this files on the HP FTP server??? I mean there is no useful filename or directory name on that server... are you all HP insiders?
I also do not understand the HP philosophy with that server. If it is meant to be useful for customers, why don't they name the directories in a understandable manner?
For example this: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software7/COL16255/co-43018-1/
leads to the Command View 6.0 software... why not name the directory "Command View" and put the software into a subdir "6.0" ???
Sometimes I don't understand customer service logic...

Re: Finding EVA software on HP FTP server
i know what you mean, it's a bit of an art form :-) . i will say it's the same on most of the major vendors sites IBM, BMC, SUN etc . i don't know what they think customers would like to see but going round in circles for half an hour looking for something fairly simple drives you nuts !! i think most of the guys on this forum have bookmarked stuff as they've found it cos you'd probably never find it again otherwise :-)
BTW CV EVA versions :-

Re: Finding EVA software on HP FTP server
If you look at some of my old posts, you'll find quite a few links which I managed to find, this one might be useful:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1113007
I'm not an insider, so these were found by pointing FileZilla at ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib and telling it to download everything. Before FileZilla actually transfers any data it does a recursive directory lookup, so it's possible to trawl through this output for interesting looking filenames. Not exactly a quick process, and as you said it would make life a lot easier if the FTP site was properly indexed...
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Finding EVA software on HP FTP server
This is the result of a database being between the 'official' webpages and the FTP server. You are supposed to go through the web pages or the search funktion and not craw the FTP server ;-)
If you insist using the FTP server anyway - please be aware that sometimes such folder contents get deleted or updated and stored in a different folder...

Re: Finding EVA software on HP FTP server
I fully understand the database thing and I always try to find the files through the HP website. But the best description for this process is "running in circles" as mentioned above.
And using a database to link the ftp server to the website does not mean that you HAVE to use cryptic names for everything.
I just hope some HP guys are reading this...
