Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

Hi,

I am trying for upgrade the Firmware on HP4/16 SAN Switch and while upgrading am facing the below error.

Firmware is being downloaded to the switch. This step may take up to 30 minutes.
Checking system settings for firmwaredownload...
Cannot download ftp://fenny:@192.168.90.132/SWBD34/release.plist.
Firmware download failed - Unable to access the package list file. Check whether the switch is supported by the requested firmware. Also check firmwaredownload help page for other possible failure reasons. (0x12)

Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue.

quick response will be appreciated

Re: Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

Give it the path:

192.168.90.132/release.plist

not

192.168.90.132/SWBD34/release.plist

I know there's no release.plist on the root folder, but that's the way it works. You give the switch the root folder and it will pick the folder.

Re: Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

Hi vcesopn,

I even tried with this but it didn't work.

It seems my ftp server is not recognizing the directory for the firmware.

am using 3CDeamon as FTP server. Do you have idea how i can change the directory location?

Re: Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

The switch firmware is usually packaged under a folder like v6.1.1. So the path would be "v6.1.1/release.plist". I don't see which version you are attempting to upgrade from, but since some time you can even leave off the "/release.plist".

Re: Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

I would manually login to the FTP server from a client and do a "cd /"
followed by a "ls"
to find out if have stored the firmware in the FTP server's root directory. If not, "put" a small file to the FTP server and then search the whole disk for this file. Move the "v5.3.0d" folder to the same location.

Then tell the switch to use "v5.3.0d/release.plist"
.

Re: Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

Hi Guys,

The download started for sometime(i have given this patch //v5.3.0d/release.plist) and after sometime it failed again after giving same error.

I checked the release notes and in that it's cleary mentioned that you can upgrade from v5.1.0d to v5.3.0d. I dont know where is the issue. Please help me i need to upgrade to latest switch firmware which is compatible with MSA1500 FW5.10 (this firmware is quiet old) please suggest to the path to upgrade MSA1500 firmware to latest.

Re: Firmware Download error---Unable to access the package list file

Hi you say "the same error" but you don't say what happened with the steps suggested above. If you want a clear view of what's happening at the FTP server end try downloading cerberus ftp and using that on a laptop, it's got a very clear and simple interface so should make things clearer.
