Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Which protocol are you using to access your host? FTP? Make sure that there is an FTP server running on your host.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi,

As far as I'm aware, Filezilla is an FTP Client, not an FTP Server.

I use the 3CDaemon program available here:

http://support.3com.com/software/utilities_for_windows_32_bit.htm

as a simple FTP server to run on my PC.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Rob

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi,

That looks like a security issue.

Could you detail the exact steps you're performing on the switch...

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi Rob,
Thanks for such quick responses.
Now i created a user in FTP server and now the upload is started but after waiting for few mins.....it's failed and gave me the error on the Switch GUI
"TRANSFER FAILED"
What could be the reason now?? and from where i can see the details of this error.
On the FTP server, it doesnt gave any error.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi,

I usually do things from the command line interface rather than the GUI.

Telnet to your switch, and try issuing the configUpload command. You should hopefully get some more meaningful error messages.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi Rob,
I tried this time by TELNET to client and on the FTP server i got this error msg
"Error writing to socket: [10054] Connection reset by peer.
Now what's wrong now.
Am really thankful for all your support till now. Please help me resolve this.

Hi,

It would be useful to see *exactly* what you're typing, and on what device...

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

OK. You need to configure 3CDaemon to allow Uploads.

From the main window click on "FTP Server" and then Configure FTP Server. Then select the option to Upload.

Could you confirm exactly what you're trying to do as well... The title of the thread says firmware upload, but the text says you're trying to upload the configuration...

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Actually am planning to upgrade the firmware so as a precautionary setup am trying to get the backup of the current configuration.
Attached file contains the screenshots of the FTP server configuration.
I hope it might help us to resolve the issue asap

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

OK. It looks like you installed 3cs117.zip rather than 3cdv2r10.zip which has different options...

Try the latter one. You can change the config easier.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

I use something like the attached.
I create an admin user which goes into the download directory on my PC.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi Rob,
Thanks alotttttttttttt for all your help.
I have few other queries. Can i ask on the same thread or do u want me to open a new thread.
My queries are:
1. There's no Zoning done on this switch. Do i have the licence for zonning? If yes, then this switch is in production...connected with Windows & Linux hosts and getting shared storage from MSA 1500. If i need to implement zonning; what impact would it have on existing presented logical disks?
2. I need to integrate this Switch to HP Openview opeations for windows for alarm monitoring. How can i do that??

Am asking these question from you, because your replies are very quick & effective as well.
Thanks a ton in any case, ROB

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi,

You might be better off starting a new thread... however I'll try to answer.

1. As far as I'm aware, all HP SAN switches have got a zoning license.

As you've got mixed operating systems connecting to an MSA you should be using zoning. When you implement a zone, there will be a brief interruption in access to the MSA from the hosts. How they handle this depends on the OS. The safest thing to do, if you're not running with any redundancy is to shut down the attached servers.

2. No idea. I've never used OpenView.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi Rob,
Whats the advantage of using zonning in my case, actually before doing anything i need to convince my manager :(

Attached is the screenshot from one of the hosts connected to MSA via san switch. In ACU on this host am able to see all the logical disks made on the MSA.
IS it changed after i implement Zoning and in ACU this particluar host will be able to see only the logical disk presented to him
Am i right??

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi,

The SAN Design Reference Guide, says you must use zoning.

See page 185 here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00403562/c00403562.pdf

You should also be using ACLs or Selective Storage Presentation, to limit which servers can access which LUNs on the MSA.

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Thanks for the suggestion ROB.
Can i rename my switch without offering any disconnection to hosts and right now the switch is on this FW
Fabos Version 5.1.0d

Is it good to upgrade it to the latest one?
What benefits new FW provide and do i need to restart the switch for that upgrade?

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

Hi,

Yes. I think you can rename the switch without any disruption.

From a command line session you should be able to use the switchName command

switchName "NewName"

Re: firmware upload on 2/16 san switch

The latest firmware for the 2/16 is 5.3.0.a

It's always a good idea to be on the latest firmware, although it appears that this release is very new.

The release notes can be found here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=402271&swItem=co-53777-2&prodNameId=402273&swEnvOID=54&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1
