Hi:
Currently those P2000 are new install to the rack no one done anything to it yet.

"Point your browser to one of the array controllers" I don't have an the P2000 ip address (do i need to configure one?).

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Connect to the array via telnet/ssh or serial, setup the ports, create a vdisk, create a volume and present the volume to the created hosts.
Look out for

P2000 G3 MSA System
SMU Reference Guide
Hope this helps!

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Hi:
my first time install SAN storage for server. Sorry about I am asking very stupid questions. Currently my team mate no one know or has experience how to configure P2000.
my servers and P2000 currently installed in other state.
So Do you mean I have to get someone to configure a IP address on array controller via console port have no other option?

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
If you read the manual you will find the array first try to get a DHCP address, if not available it falls back to a fixed IP. You can also get the USB driver utility and make a serial connection via the USB cable.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Finally going use console port to do the configure. and I got more questions here:
what commands will do to create follow partitions?
• 1GB LUN for the RHEL Cluster quorum device
• minimum 50GB for the MySQL database
• minimum 100GB for the shared data of the FSMSC
• minimum 50GB for the shared data of the Tomcat Servlets
and after that how to find this SAN storage on RHEL server?

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
It still lokks like you did not read the manual so far, right?
Everything is explained there. Configuration details depend also on the number of disks you have, you need to decide if you want to have RAID10 or RAID50 as RAID level.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
I did read those following documents:
- P2000 G3 MSA System FC/iSCSI User Guide
- HP P2000 G3 MSA System CLI Reference Guide
- HP P2000 G3 MSA System SMU Reference Guide
but I can't find any command to create a LUN. is it "add unit" command work on P2000, if not what command to crete LUN (I don't see that in P2000 cli reference)?
I am going using level r1 and all 12 hard disk to create each vdisk.
if I want to create mysql vdisk, is it right command to use? but what about the size of MySql?
" create vdisk level raid1 disks 1.1-12 MySql "

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
It is probably an easy way to use the provisioning wizard from the web frontend of the array.
However, you need to do the following steps:
- create a vdisk (RAID10) accross a number of disks
- inside the vdisk create your volumes (LUNs)
- create your host entries (WWNs of the servers HBAs)
- present the volumes (LUNS) to the hosts
relevant CLI commands:
- create vdisk
- create volume
- create host
- map volume
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
You will need 2 IP addresses, 1 per controller.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Hi:
- There has 2 controllers on each P2000, Do you mean I need to configure both controller with IP?
- I just got someone plug the console cable from server to P2000 and I am using minicom, but doesn't work.
My server OS is RHEL6.1 Do you have any idea how to get that working?
- Also do I need to login to each controller to do the configureation? or one controller will do one P2000?

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
AFAIK there is only a windows driver available. So you need to install the driver, connect the USB cable, look up the COM port and make a serial connection (e.g. COM1).
YOu should give each controller an IP address, otherwise you cannot access it for management, but you do the config on just 1 controller, the config is mirrored between both.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Hi:
I am wondering is P2000 console cable. P2000 cli is mini-USB B to normal serial port?
if that right did P2000 come with the console cable in box? or we have to buy our own cable?
Thanks

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Just the windows driver "create" a special COM port for the P2000 serial communination port.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
take a crossed LAn cable, connect your PC to one of the controllers, configure your PC with 10.0.0.3 or something.
here are the defaults of the controllers:
Management Port IP Address:
10.0.0.2 (controller A),
10.0.0.3 (controller B)
IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway IP Address: 10.0.0.1
If your network has a DHCP server, connect the controllers to the network and use this tool from a windows PC to find the P2k:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=4118559&prodNameId=4118560&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-32f1d5746edb4409837b2b4ed4
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

So 1 management port will able to access to both controller via 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3? is that right?

Re: How to configure P2000 G3 MSA on RHEL 6
Hi:
I guess Raid 10 would be right one.
500143801206d22e is my FC port on server 1. that was found by P2000 itself.
it did match to /sys/class/fc_host/host2/device/fc_host/host2/port_name.
and I map all volums under that, but I can't find any volums in the server (commands: ls /dev fdisk -l ).
I don't where I went wrong.
