Re: how to determin LUN number at true 64 unix on xp512 storage

Hi Mohammad,

We have a large number of Tru 64 Unix hosts attached to our SAN using HP EVA 5000s and HSG80s storage arrays.

So, I would provide my input based on the EVA & HSG80s experience...you may find it to be of some help. When we create a Vdisk on an EVA or HSG80, we assign a UDID.

From the UNIX host end, you could simply just do a "hwmgr -view devices" - and the result shows you the storage units presented to the host with their UDID. Depending on your UDID scheme, this is sufficent to tell you the LUN, e.g. we use a 5 digit UDID - 1st digit tells us the campus, next two tell us the number of the storage array and the last two tell us the LUN.

Alternatively, from the command output from "hwmgr -view devices", you could also then do a "hwmgr -show scsi -id xyz", where xyz is the device HWID that you wish to gather LUN information about. This command output contains the BTL (eg. 0/0/19) value.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,
Saket.
