How to enable the Extended port feature to connect to additional switch without license

Hi,

We are using HP 4/8 SAN Switch, we want to connect Primary and DR sites using these switches, we do not have full feature license,we are getting license error. HP says that we can still by pass these error and activate this extended port, but after 30 days it will stop GUI access to Switch configuration. We have already ordered for the license, till then we need to use this without license, can anybody help on this

Re: How to enable the Extended port feature to connect to additional switch without license

Hi Skylark,

I hope you are using Entry level license (i.e) U can configure one port as E-Port.If you want to use more than one port u should go for full fabric license.

for configuring E-port in switch

switch>portcfgEport 5,1

This will enable the 5th port of switch1 as E-port

Re: How to enable the Extended port feature to connect to additional switch without license

Hi,

Actually I have connected the switch to the other switch on port 7, and switch report clearly says that there is no license and also, it has detected as E-Port only. Still it is not recognising the 2nd switch. Please find attached the switch report along with this. can you help on this.

Re: How to enable the Extended port feature to connect to additional switch without license

Hi,
To me it looks like one of these two problems.

1 - you don't have a fabric license. Do a 'licenseshow'. Perhaps this has been removed.

2 - the switch at the other end has exceeded its licensing capability.

When you buy any switch you should be able to plug it in to at least one other switch without purchasing any additional licenses. If HP has mentioned 'extended' this could mean that you are going to exceed 4 switches in total on your fabric, which would lead me to believe that on your 'remote' site there is more than 1 switch right now.

Re: How to enable the Extended port feature to connect to additional switch without license

Hi,

This is 4/8 San Switch with 16 ports, but only 8 ports are licensed. By default it will not come with Full Fabric License. But I got the mail from HP that we can still connect to the second switch. I did not find any options to activate it.
