HP SanSwitches and other switches ?
OK, maybe my first post was too long and detailed for any response ;>) Sooo,
Has anyone been successful in getting the HP SanSwitches (Brocade) to interoperate with other-vendor switches.
Supposedly, they can work with Cisco MDSxxxx and Vixel, because I've seen doco referencing those.
Specifically, when I set "interopmode 1" on the Brocade 2800, it will indeed now "see" the Cisco MDS9216 and MDS9509 (nice, green LEDs :). But, then, my HPUX boxes no longer see a 4/40 attached to the same Brocade 2800 (I haven't tried seeing any arrays, yet).
Is it something to do with zoning (or lack thereof) or quickloop? The HPUX box shows up as an N_port, while the 4/40 shows up as a NL_port on the 2800.
What's the magic here, please :)

Re: HP SanSwitches and other switches ?
While I have not tried the interop myself, keep in mind the least common denominator.
When you set the interop mode, you dumb down the brocade switch to do this.

I would call my local Brocade Engineer and see what he has to say. My local folks are always more than willing to answer any questions that I might have.

Re: HP SanSwitches and other switches ?
I would suggest to set the MDS switch port attaching the brocade to interop 1 mode too, so they know both each other... Would be interesting to attach a Port Analyzer and see what's really happenning, have to try that...

see

for more discussion. The issue is not really interop between the MDS and Brocade, but with devices attached to the Brocade after setting interopmode 1.
