Re: HS_Service Error

That is interesting...

The HS_service is mentioned in the Secure Path V4.0B documentation, but no longer in the V4.0C. It is (was?) used to "collect extended status and error data and generate Application Event Log entries".

I currently don't have a system running with SP V4.0C to check if it is still used there - is this a new installation or was it upgraded from on older version?

Re: HS_Service Error

Uwe,
The HS_Service is happily running on all my SAN connected Servers here with SPM 4.0C. Some are updates from 4.0b, one is a direct 4.0c install.

Re: HS_Service Error

Thanks, Rob. That saved me from setting it up myself was I was very interested in the answer.

Now, it looks like the problem is somewhere else.

Albert, what is the history of this installation? Any recent upgrades?

Re: HS_Service Error

No this is the first installation of securePath 4.0c, But the Hs_service was installed before SecurePath 4.0c and it has never started !! (Always the same error)

Re: HS_Service Error

Hm... It looks like I hit the wrong .PDF file when I looked for HS_Service and didn't notice it. Oh. Well...

I have no idea what the problem on your system is, but you might try the following:

- locate file HS_Service.exe

- in a DOS box, run 'HS_Service.exe -remove'

- reboot (don't know if this is really necessary, but hey: it's Windows!)

- run 'HS_Service.exe -install'

- perhaps do another reboot...

Re: HS_Service Error

Get a hold of the WEBES tools and you will be able to transalte your HS_Servive events from the application log. I use this as a proactive measure for failed drives, batteries and controller problems.

Re: HS_Service Error

I ws getting the same error in my Event log. I called up HP technical support and they told me to disable the HS Service because it is something my SAN doesn't use.

Anyways, I updated my SecurePatch from 4.0B to 4.0C on a few of my machines and the error occurred again so I disabled the service. So far everything looks good. Anybody know what it does?

Re: HS_Service Error

PT,
as I wrote in my first response: it collects error messages from the storage array (HSG or HSV) and stores them in the Windows event log. 'qvalor' already wrote that there are additional tools to translate this data.

Are you, by chance, using an MSA1000? The HS-Service doesn't understand that array.
