HSG80 and OS type

When renaming a !newcon connection on my HSG80 there is an OS type setting. The default is WINNT and should be changed depending on the OS of the connection. Does anyone know what this setting actually does, other than saying it should be set to match the OS, the manuals do not go into any more detail.

If the !newcon is not renamed and the defualt OS of WINNT is not changed, are there any known problems or issues if the OS is not WINNT.

Hi Herb,

HSG controller uses the connection type to emulate different HW, so the OS can understand the controller, and access the disk.
It doesn???t matter what name you give the connection, but to make it easy on yourself try something easy. And it will probably not work if you have any other OS than WindowsNT/2K or AIX.

Not sure of the implications if you set the Operating System to something different to what you're connecting to - it may not be a supported config.

I attached a Netware server to our ESA12K in the lab and left the connection type to the default WINNT.

I didn't see a bit of difference.

To be on the safe side though, I would contact HP tech support and ask them.
