HSG80 controller and RA8000 storage

Dear Sir,

we want to change the cache battery of Ra8000 storage what precaution to be taken before changing cache battery.
Also we want to add one more HSG80 controller as a redundant controller, so what are the steps involved to add one more HSG80 controller as a redundant controller.

Thanks & Regds

Re: HSG80 controller and RA8000 storage

Hello Dhananjay,

Changing cache battery and adding a redundant/failover controller is quite an involved activity. I suggest you take help of HP service engineer for this work.

The steps are however described in the Service and Maintenance guide for HSG80 and RA8000.

Mulgund's suggestion is a very good one - you'll be much better off with an HP engineer on-site to do this. Also - neither activity can be done "hot". Your servers will need to be taken down while this work is done.

I'd recommend calling HP Services. This is your safest bet. Unless this controller is not in production...

Re: HSG80 controller and RA8000 storage

If the failed drive was in a mirror set (say MIRRx) then try this:

> set MIRRx NOPOLICY
> set MIRRx MEMBERSHIP=3
> set MIRRx REPLACE=DISKy
==> wait for mirror copy to complete
check with:
> sho MIRRx
once copy is done:
> reduce DISKz
> set MIRRx POLICY=BEST_PEFORMANCE
replace the failed disk (read the manual first, make sure you follow the proper QUIESCE instructions)
> run config
maybe add the new disk to the spareset:
> add spareset DISKz

Re: HSG80 controller and RA8000 storage

Hi Ross ,

Hardisk is in Raidset not in mirror set .We want to configure a new disk as a spareset as the original spareset has already been consumed by the failed disk.

Re: HSG80 controller and RA8000 storage

We are planning to use following step .

Step-1.ENABLE AUTOSPARE WITH FOLLWOING COMMAND
TOP> set failedset autospare
(this will initialize the new HDD and instered afterword place it in spareset)

Step-2. Remove the fialed disk drive.

Step-3. Insert the new disk drive.

Pls suggest any modifications if required.
