HSZDisk error

I am currently running a HSG80 base SAN. On one of our Windows 2000 servers I am consitently getting the same 2 error messages in the event log.

In the Application Log I get:

Event ID 1 Source: HS_Service
HSZDisk error detected.

I am unable to see any kind of error on the SAN itself.
Can you tell me what is causing the problem?
Thanks

Re: HSZDisk error

Hi Terry,

This looks likely to be a recovered soft error on one of the disks in the HSG80.

If these are happening very frequently it's probably an indication of a disk that's about to fail.

If you hook a console up to the HSG80's serial port, you will probably see error messages showing up there. These will indicate which disk is at fault.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Rob

Re: HSZDisk error

Rob,
Thanks for the info, however we had already done that, and everything was clean. However, we just logged into the HSG80 again, and there are still no error msgs of any kind. So, we're still scratchin' our heads.

Re: HSZDisk error

use hyperterm on one of the HSG Console ports and run vtdpy and do a show disks or sho devices (i think). Look for a disk or disks with a high error count, If you have one then replace it and see if the errors go away. If you dont see all the disks move the cable to the other controller and repeat.

Re: HSZDisk error

We have already done that. We did a sho disk on each disk in the array and saw zero errors on all of them. So far there have been no dicernable problems, just the continuing string of error msgs. I defragged the disk a few days ago, and since then the errors have been fewer, but they still show up, especially at night when the backup is running. Thanks
