LUN 0 requirement.

We run HP/UX 11.0 on N-Class hooked up to our SAN (brocades and HDS frames) using A5158 Fiber adapters. (Driver version B.11.00.10)

When we setup these servers, there was this limitation, that each server required a LUN 0.

Also lun numbering need to be sequential with no breaks in between.

(Also we had the < 8 LUN limitation initially which was fixed later by a firmware upgrade.)

Is LUN 0 still a requirement?

This prevents us from sharing ports on HDS for multiple servers. Right now, each server is using up two ports (primary plus alternate links). We are running out of ports and need to add more servers to the SAN.

I appreciate any response to this.

Thanks in advance.

Re: LUN 0 requirement.

Ven,
what're HDS frames? XP disk arrays? 3rd party disk arrays? Do you have any reference to info you provided in your queston (ie document stating that it should be in the way you described)? Any other hardware connected to the SAN?

Re: LUN 0 requirement.

Eugeny,

Thanks for your response.

HDS is Hitchi's frame. We use 9960 (HP resells the same as XP with added features.)

Our SAN is just HP (N-Class) servers running 11.0

Re: LUN 0 requirement.

First off, the HDS 9960 is the XP512 hardware.

I believe all this has been resolved via patches. Bring your boxes up to the current patch level (I think it's December 2002), and you should be all set.

Good luck,

Vince
No matter where you go, there you are.

Re: LUN 0 requirement.

This was fixed a long time ago with patch PHKL_21607. Of course this is now superseded - the latest version being PHKL_28131.

As usual check for patch dependencies before applying.
