Monitoring SAN disk failure
Hi
We have 14 Disk MSA1000 connected to a DL380 running RedHat Linux Advanced Server2.1. We would like to monitor the state of the individual MSA disks from the DL380. Are there are any command line options for doing this. Currently we are able to monitor the MSA secure path controller and devices from the DL380 using the 'spmgr' utility. But spmgr does not provide the facility to monitor the state of the individual disks.
Are there any other such utlities which provide command line tools that can be used to monitor MSA1000 disk state.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: Monitoring SAN disk failure
Hi,
I think you will have to get MRTG software.
BAsic MRTG is used only for network Monitoring.
But Advance MRTG is used for CPU,Disk monitoring.
You can find some examples of disk & cpu monitoring using advance MRTG here :
http://www.siliconvalleyccie.com/linux-hn/mrtg-advanced.htm
While come Basics of MRTG are available here.

The official site of MRTG is

Re: Monitoring SAN disk failure
Thanks for the response.
We would not like to install anything extra on our nodes. We already have scripts setup to monitor different aspects and want to integrate the SAN disk monitors using command line options using the existing utilities.
As i said, spmgr serves most of the purposes expect this one thing.

Re: Monitoring SAN disk failure
Secure Path _cannot_ look into the controller - it would be way beyond the scope of it - it is just a multipathing filter driver with management interfaces.
