MSA1000 SAN - {Lost Delayed-Write Data} under Windows 2000
We have a new HP MSA1000 SAN. The unit works fine but generates error messages in the Windows Event Log. The messages are:
========================
Source Ftdisk
Event ID 50
{Lost Delayed-Write Data} The system was attempting to transfer file data from buffers to \Device\HarddiskVolume3. The write operation failed, and only some of the data may have been written to the file.
Source Application popup
Event ID 26
Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HarddiskVolume3\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
========================
I don't know if these error messages are cosmetic or substantive.
We are currently testing the unit and hope to put it into production soon.
Any thoughts?

Re: MSA1000 SAN - {Lost Delayed-Write Data} under Windows 2000
SP4 for Windows 2000 is supposed to correct some bugs with similar symptoms.
Also there is a hotfix after SP4:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830051&Product=win2000
As this contains a new DISK.SYS it might anyway be worth a shot to install.
Also make sure in device manager that none of the MSA disks have selected write cache enabled.
Lastly if several servers and/or clusters are connected to the same SAN, then using SecurePath could be a good idea.
Cheers,
Rune
