MSA1500 cache upgrade procedure

Hi Forum,

I have a MSA1500cs with two controllers and plan on upgrading the cache on both to 512MB. Installing the cache is not a problem but I dont know If I have to shutdown the MSA or can I do it one controller at a time. The MSA is running active-active and has windows hosts attached to it. There are manuals regarding replacing failed controllers but nothing on upgrading the cache.

Thanks in advance.

Re: MSA1500 cache upgrade procedure

You'll have to shutdown. Each controller can be disabled and removed, but both controllers have to run with the same amount of cache.
Maybe if you upgrade one, insert it, it will disable itself as it cannot run having different cache size, but I'll prefer to do it powering off the MSA.

Thanks for the info. I shall shut the MSA down.
