MSA1500cs with MA20
My customer, have a msa1500cs with ma20 sata disk drives.Msa1500 firmware version: 4.8x and ma20 : 1.5x
Two Logical Volumes created:
1 volume - 4 x 250gb Sata raid5
1 volume - 3 x 750gb sata raid5
We can see in documentation, that 750gb Sata are not supported with this FW version, but msa1500 would be see it with 593GB.
Client cofigured 750gb drives without FW upgrade. 1 raid5 with (1Tb - 2x593gb, all that msa1500cs can see), and 1 raid with the other four 250gb sata drives (this volume its ok).
After the 750gb disks upgrade some strange things occured. The volumes (both) goes offline, a lot of times.
Both volumes now have a lot of information.
250gb raid5 have no free space, and the raid with 750gb hard drives have 200GB of information.
My queation IS.
With FW upgrade to version 5.20 (support version to 750gb hard drive), what is the msa1500cs will do to the volume with 750GB drives ????? and his information??????
volume was created with 593GB(msa could not see more space)........and after FW upgrade it will se 750GB!!!!!!!
what can i exepect from this FW upgrade
TKS IN ADVANCE.

Re: MSA1500cs with MA20
I've done this in december last year at a customers site. I was faced with the same problems, but I hadn't setup this MSA. It was done by another IT company.
I had to backup the data, destroy the logical volume, delete the array, flash the MSA and recreate array and volume. After that, I've restored the data. This was, and it currently, the only supported way. I don't know what happens, if you to the update. Maybe nothing, but I belive that you will not able to use the 157 GB of new space.
Best regards,
Patrick

Re: MSA1500cs with MA20
You think that if i don´t destroy the array, i will not able to use the 157 GB of new space.I belive you are right.....but the information??!!!!you think they will remain in logical volume???The client have backup
You made the fw upgrade online??i´ll flash version 5.20 and for msa20 2.02. All the upgrades i have done, was offline with ISO boot cd. There are no iso cd in HP web site for this version 5.20, So i´ll have to do update ONLINE, i ask you if it´s ok??or if there are any kind of problems with O.S. because, during upgrade i think the HD´s will be diconnected from O.S. Any task to do before update??
Tks in advance.

Re: MSA1500cs with MA20
you need to delte the logical drives and arrays, after the flash you can add them again.
The firmwareupdate can be done online, you need to powercycle the MSA yourself. That is not done by the firmware flash. But I won't do it from a host, that is booting from that storage. ;)
Best regards,
Patrick

Re: MSA1500cs with MA20
I´ll do that, delete logical drive, then delete array, and do the FW upgrade.after that create array again, create logical drive.....and......RESTORE :(:(:(
