Netapp connecting to Brocade 2800 as FL port can it connect as an F port?

Our F880 netapp has a Qlogic 2200 adapter and is connecting to the brocade 2800 as a FL port (public loop) The Qlogic card support Fport. My question is how do I configure the Netapp to have the card connect as a Fport?

Anyway... I know NetApps doesn't support SANs. They only support their own, specific configurations.

If you're not concerned about support and want to try...

The problem is no doubt the QLogic driver. I am pretty sure that they would have disabled (removed) any features that they don't need from the driver - they don't need Fabric mode.

You could try to install a newer version of the driver - the FreeBSD version might work (NetApps is based on FreeBSD) - but it depends on how much NetApps modified the kernel. You would also have to figure out how to either dynamically load the driver or rebuild their kernel.

Dynamically loading the driver might be possible, but I think it's highly unlikely that you would be able to relink their kernel.

SAN connection to the netapp is for access to our tape library and NDMP backups not for accessing disk

Are you trying to connect to the FC adapters that are being used for the disks or is it a seperate adapter?

NetApp is not able to talk Fabric, at this moment they can only talk ALPA. What I know is that they are in the BETA for a new ONTAP version that can talk Fabric. They want release it in the end of april or may, i think
