Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

Hi All,
I've got a Blade Server that has a dual port Qlogic HBA, connected to two fabrics.
I have the same setup on a number of servers.

I have it zoned and configured and both ports added in CommandView. The EVA has 2 ports per fabric switch. So from SANSufer from each HBA Port I should see all of the presented LUNs.
Normally from SANSurfer the items below the port show up as "Disks" and below those I can see the LUNs.
On this odd one though, one of the links to the EVA is showing up as "Device" and no LUNs are present.
I'm not quite sure how this can be, it indicates one of the 4 paths to the EVA is unavailable. But all of the other HBAs in other servers show 4 links to the EVA just fine.
So, it's not zoning and it's not CV or I'd see more than just a path to the EVA down.

Any hints as to what can be done to correct the issue.

Re: Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

Hi,
one very quick solution is to check the SAN switch port which the Blade server is connected to (and disable enable it) and then check it if its online
It this is not sufficient, you could physicaly replug the cable/SFP of the suspicious HBA connection...
the pain is one part of the reality

Re: Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

I've tried most of the obvious things. The fact it picks up one path to the EVA on the port okay baffles me.
When I've seen problems in the past it usually affects both paths on the port.

Re: Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

Hi Rob,

Is the host OS type set correctly in Command View ? That *might* have an impact...

Cheers,

Re: Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

Yeah - that's set to Windows.
It's odd, just rebooted the server and the broken link has now moved to Port 2. It was on Port 1.
I'll keep digging. I've already had one motherboard replaced on a similar BL460c because one of the HBA ports was dead. Tracked it back to the server and not the HBA itself. Now wondering if this is a similar issue.

Re: Port Connection Issue from Blade Server

Looks like this may have been a dodgy tranceiver on the SAN Switch.
