Re: preformance monitor

What you need is HP OpenView Storage Area Manager.
It can be installed on your SMA (Storage Management Appliance) on top of SOM /Storage Operation Manager).

Re: preformance monitor

The storage optimizer (or better the device plugin) does not go to that details _inside_ the EVA.

Re: preformance monitor

FYI

Storage Optimizer displays the following 38 parameters that are provided for the EVA:

DeviceReadOperations DeviceTotalOperations DeviceWriteOperations SubsystemReadResponseTime SubsystemWriteResponseTime SubsystemTotalRequestRate SubsystemReadRequestRate SubsystemWriteRequestRate SubsystemReadQueue LunReadResponseTime LunReadRequestRate LunReadDataRate LunReadDataSize LunReadQueue LunWriteResponseTime LunWriteRequestRate LunWriteDataRate LunWriteDataSize LunWriteQueue LunTotalRequestRate LunTotalDataRate LunTotalTransferSize LunPercentRead LunPercentWrite LunTotalQueue LunReadOperations LunTotalOperations LunWriteOperations SubsystemWriteDataRate SubsystemWriteDataSize SubsystemWriteQueue SubsystemTotalDataRate SubsystemTotalTransferSize SubsystemPercentRead SubsystemPercentWrite SubsystemTotalQueue SubsystemReadDataRate SubsystemReadDataSize

What are you missing?

Re: preformance monitor

I understand the question that he is asking for details about the physical disk I/O inside the EVA as well as CPU and memory consumption.

Is there a way to see at least the physical disk I/Os through storage optimizer? (That is a honest question - I like to see this data as well)

Re: preformance monitor

i dont have "Storage Optimizer". cant i have the MIBS and just monitor everything with "MRTG" or "insite manager"?

Re: preformance monitor

Mrtg can only monitor the port activity at the switch level - also it is point in time - it logs into the swithces at given intervals and then runs a switchshow. The accumulation of the data recieved in this way provides the historical data, but the actual point in time is not visable. Mrgt is useful, but limited - OpenView SAM will provide much more detailed information about not just your EVA, but your whole SAN. From my experiance the SAN is often (always) the first suspect if a system is running slowly - SAM provides a way of showing that your system is far from the high end of it's performance limits (it normally will be).

Does Storage Optimizer support MA8000 & MSA1000?

Re: preformance monitor

Storage Optimizer does support MSA1000 & HSG80 based subsystems. See the release notes for the latest DPIs for each system to see exactly what metrics it can measure.

Re: preformance monitor

You can't! If you don't work for HP, you can't tell what the EVA is doing RIGHT NOW!!!! Storage optimizer will only give you some historical data. Not what it is doing right now! I can't see what each port on the EVA is doing.

We are having some performance issues during the backup window with one of our EVA's. HP is bringing a specialy loaded PC to our data center to assist us in troubleshooting this issue. Note: the SAN switch ports are not even hitting 1GB throughput rates.

We believe that it is the AIX systems that do not want to play nice on the SAN, but it is also related to the AIX SECUREPATH driver that the AIX system uses for the EVA.
