Raid level 0-1

Dear all

I have RAC between two hp node servers rp8400 each one has application and the database is reside on EVA3000 storage with raid0.protection

My question is how i can change the raid level from 0 to 1 of the database without i lose the the database?

I don't think you're going to be able to do this without at least some downtime.

Assuming you're at VCS 3.020 you might be able to minimize the downtime by using snapclones.

Right, the EVA cannot convert a virtual disk's VRAID level in-place. Using snapclones (which needs sufficient free space!) requires pre-planning and a certain amount of downtime, because you have to dismount the old VDISK, take the snapclone, configure the new LUN and the mount the new LUN.

I would add that you should do the change to vraid1 or vraid5 ASAP as the chances of a single drive failure are high.

I had such an event and hpefully the vdisk was being mirrored to another EVA so it is was possible to rebuild the data on the vdisk (after deleting and creating it as vraid5)
