i have some 18gb drives in the san that arent being used - they are acknoledge as the config has been run
i want to replace these with 34gb's scsi3 instead of scsi2 - do i just swap them and rerun config

How about more information here? SAN could mean anything. I'm sure that it equals your setup in your mind, but everyones environment is different.
What kind of storage subsystem/controllers do you have?

attach config
it's the 18's on second shelf
i dont want to use the 18's - i'm concerned that it's a bad idea to mix scsi2 and 3 on same shelf
ideally as you've said before more shelfs would be better but not sure if that will happen
